      Apple's Greatest Idea Yet
      Apple's status has gone from a virtual nothing to a media darling in the past few years.

      But I think the iPhone will put them into another category within the next six months.

      iPod touch is brilliant in that it's contributing a great deal to the app store success. Still a few apps require iPhone, such as the amazing new google mobile app for iPhone. And internet everywhere is very cool, as is not paying for that with iPod. You can have the app store either way, and I don't see nintendo, msft, sony, competing with Apple.

      People simply won't pay $60 for a game when they can get it for $5-$10 on the app store.

      Dell's Got a Demand Problem
      'Everyone' does not have a demand problem like Dell has a demand problem. In fact, in Apple's recent statement, Mac sales are UP. Look, just buy a generic motherboard, power supply, graphics, case, etc... It's the SAME THING you get from Dell, which is the same as any other generic PC. And they ALL are SLOWER than Mac, and look 10 years older.

      Apple is stealing Microsoft's bacon. 'Enterprise' has gone Mac already, it's just not hit the CW yet. Just wait for the next earnings release.

      There is a pattern with Apple products. Everyone on the 'street' dismisses them universally, until they become phenomena. Then the 'street' questions if they can ever come up with another mac/ipod/iphone, etc... Then the next game changer comes out and the cycle repeats itself. Eventually attitudes change, but that change is glacial.

      iPhone has totally redefined the 'smart' phone as we know it. Same as the Mac did to the old fashioned DOS based computer, same as the iPod did to mere 'MP3 players'.

      Dell: Absurdly Cheap
      I think Dell could very easily go bankrupt. As cash strapped as they are, they offer NOTHING to the generic PC computer user. It's simple to eliminate Dell, just do the same thing they do--buy cheap, generic parts, plug them together in any ugly box you can find.

      I'd rather buy a company that offers something no other company can match, and one that is in good shape financially. Also, one with more markets than just computers. Especially in these times.

      Another way to summarize your Apple Microsoft comparison would be that in this decade, an MSFT investment is worth about HALF what it was in 1999, while an APPLE investment is worth about SEVEN TIMES what it was in 1999.

      Apple's Search Engine: Truth or Rumor?

      Google Chrome is little more than a rework of Apple's Safari. That's cool though, Safari is the best browser available today on any platform. Web kit started as open source, but it's probably the best thing Apple has given back to the open source community.

      Apple doesn't want to 'put the boots' to Google, just to Microsoft. I agree about the Google Phone though, it really hasn't added anything so far.

      Latest Apple Rumor: DRM-Free Music Headed from Sony BMG to iTunes
      All artists should go direct to Apple and bypass the greedy record companies. It's working for the programmers and software companies on the (iTunes) App store.

      But Apple has not pushed for this. Yet--I think they should try to sign artists directly, but most are already under long term contracts, I'd imagine.

      I agree with the posters here. It's just insanely stupid what the labels, other than EMI have done. Apple made this all possible. It's as if they feel they would be better off with Napster and people ripping off music as they did before iTunes.

      Memo to clueless record companies. Give the people what they want!

      I will never buy electronic music files from another source. I have all my songs in iTunes already. Why would I want to go through the HASSLE of moving stuff around, opening a new account, etc... (Especially with the likes of WALMART, etc...)

      I'd rather not buy it at all.

      Who Will Win? Microsoft Doubles Google's Offer to Verizon
      As an APPL investor, I hope Verizon goes with Microsoft search. That will only help the iPhone, as if it weren't already crushing RIM in the marketplace. The Verizon 'smart' phones are already bad enough. Put MS search on there, and the market will go totally iPhone.

      People do not equate Microsoft with search. That is a fact, and for good reason.

      Domestic car companies have never taken fuel efficiency seriously. Is it any wonder why they have lost the market to VW, Honda, Toyota, even Kia and Hundai?

      Hybrids are a joke. You pay way too much, and the weight of the car is such that the gains are minimal. You can't possibly drive slow enough not to engage the guzzler engine, and you can't possibly save enough on fuel to pay for all the complex technology. And, all this assumes you will have no problems with the incredibly complex vehicles, which is virtually impossible, especially given the Ford and GM track record on reliability.

      GM had the EV-1, in reaction to the CAFE standards, which people in the test program loved. GM would not let people keep the cars and had them all destroyed when the CAFE standards were gutted by the right wing administration and the EPA. Check out the documentary called 'Who Killed the Electric Car'. It's an eye-opener. These were sporty and did zero to 60 faster than most gas guzzlers.

      Verizon already has a horrible line-up of phones. Now, they are going to put MS search on there so that their customers can't find anything? I guess it's just as well since none of their 'smart' phones can browse the web.

      Who Will Take GM's Place in the Dow?
      None of these are industrial stocks. Maybe the DOW should be retired as we obviously do not have much of an industrial base left in the U.S.
