Uranium: Safely and Efficiently Powering the Future
If fxtrader07 used proper grammar, spelled words correctly, and learned how to construct a coherent sentence, then there's a chance others would at least consider his comments with some measure of objectivity.

Uranium: Safely and Efficiently Powering the Future
Excellent article. (It's too bad the underinformed are so adept at showing their ignorance). What many don't realize is the "storage" of fossil fuels is actually the end result - millions of tons of CO2 and particulates emitted into our atmosphere - just as deadly. Since the burning of U308 is a chemical process, the chances of discovering another process to extrapolate and reuse what is left is very high. Or, making the initial process more efficient. It just takes time.

There is no question in my mind nuclear is the way to go, at least while we continue to develop new technologies as well.

      Toward a U.S. Energy Policy
Brian, you need to look at the big picture. Yes, petroleum use is all around us. The author is showing us the path of least resistance. Transportation, one of the biggest culprits, doesn't require petroleum. It can use other fuels. So I agree, this is a good step towards a targeted solution.

CBS Digital Radio Network: They Have Nailed It
As a former dj and syndicated radio show producer, most of us have watched terrestrial radio go down the tubes for years. (I'm speaking now of music stations). Between the major label iron grip, the lobbyists trying to destroy the competition, satellite radio, Clear Channel and its ridiculous cronies, itunes and other digital distribution models, the programming "experts" who listen with their mouths, and the rest of the dog & pony show, it has been a slow-moving train wreck.

For all its "new frontier" questions and hurdles, CBS has done what no one thought possible - developed a business model to capture this new technology. Last Fm is brilliant. It learns your style and introduces new ones. I am speaking from experience on this one. With absolutely zero promotion, I posted 4 of my own albums back in July of '07. I now have a steady listening audience of 100+ listeners that I can network with and sell songs to. And I am a nobody.

But do you think any music oriented terrestrial radio station would have given me the time of day?

With results like that, who needs radio at all?

Is This the Moment of Truth?
If we, as a country, don't wake up to the fact that we are losing our economic position as a leader in the global marketplace, and don't work together to do something about it soon, then the world as we know it will change forever. The problems are well-known and too lengthy to list here.

OK Bill, you got my interest. I went ahead and entered all the symbols in Google Finance. (I only own a couple of them, but I'm sure my mutual funds and ETF's own them as well). So now I wait, and you will let us know, right? Thanks.

Talk of a Latin American 'Bubble' Gains Steam
You've got major gas reserves offshore. You've got ethanol being produced from sugarcane, and being used to replace fossil fuels. You don't have an overbuilt real estate problem, a ballooning deficit, and no one down there is funding a crazy war. Yesterday S&P upgraded the region to investment grade. Looks to me like they're doing a lot of things RIGHT!!!

Has the Internet Made Us Better Investors?
Although all the tools are out there, from a wide moat of new investment vehicles to websites, newsletters, and tv shows dedicated to analyzing them, I now see two fundamental problems.

      1) This new internet frontier has increased the flow of information, both pro & con, so much so that it's becoming a level of "white noise". Everybody and their brother, including you & I, are now bloggers. In fact, I am amazed at the poor level of writing abilities, spelling, and grammar that I am seeing. It's a sad reflection of the state of our educational system. In that regard, it tends to create more confusion. Good for the brokers who make money on the buy & sell.

      2) There are a lot of people out there who are trapped in crappy funds by their company plan, or trusting a financial advisor who works on commission. These are the very people who need to get out and learn how to research, invest and think for themselves.

As much as I applaud ETF's for all the obvious reasons, I still leave some room for professional management. It's actually a play on diversification. And managers may discover some lesser known companies that aren't on any index.

The Politics of Gas Prices: Comprehensive Energy Policy Needed
Good article. Although you touch on a lot of good points, what you don't address are the solutions - incentives to get the public and corporations off oil altogether. An across the board energy policy that puts the correct fuel closest to the end user makes the most sense. (ie electric commuter cars, diesel for trucks & rail, ethanol for farm equipment, solar in high sun regions, nuclear in high density areas, wind in high wind areas, etc). In addition, as far as the big US oil companies, only tax the windfall if they don't invest it in alternative energy sources. In other words, if they don't do it, it is their loss.
