Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know Newsby SA Editor Rachael Granby- Bank trio becomes duo. Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
- Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only.
- Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.

Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable
Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable
Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable
Your choice of words are interesting yet underscore the problem.
You talk about a "win" for the FCC.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the FCC's duty and purpose isn't to win anything but to support and determine the application of rules and technology that aid and educate the people.
It seems they have a confused their jobs with their careers.
Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable
I'm afraid at this point I can only conclude that she is leveraging her vote for her own personal gain very much like Martin did in delaying this vote for 17 months.
I will be opposed to Ms. Tate's continuation at the FCC even if she votes twice in favor of this merger this afternoon, as I'm done with her and frankly tired about hearing what she wants... that she's unsure .. that she seems conflicted. Jesus H Fucking Christ lady, if you have no idea 506 days after the merger announcement, I for one would suggest you're not capable of an opinion.
In honor of Ms. Tate's either indecisiveness, incompetence or self serving nature the people she's chosen to ignore have penned a little ditty in her honor;
--
Come and listen to a story about a girl named Deb
A poor mountaineer, the NAB kept her family fed
Then one day she was primping in the mirror
And in through the door came a fellow named Rehr… Dave that is …
Limousines, trips.. speaking fees !
Well the first thing you know Old Deb’s a millionaire
Rehr said Deb let’s move away from here
He said “In Congress” is the place you ought to be
So they loaded up the Lexus and moved on up the street
K Street that is … Lobbyists, parties… trips to Africa …Swimmin pools, movie stars.
The FCC Hillbillies!
Well now its time to say good-bye to the FCC and all their friends
They would like to thank you folks for buying in with them
You're all invited back again to this locality, to watch the constipation and mediocrity
Politics that is. Set a spell. Take your wallet out . Y'all come back now, y'hear?
Sirius-XM Merger Decision Delay Is Unacceptable
(2) That satrad continually faces immense challenges almost as if pre-ordained and continual like the rising of the sun. Excessive start up costs, Ipod, Bad management, lawsuits, NAB, Paid for Congress, $4.00 gas, automotive product mix, HD, Internet Radio, Cash flow, recession, slumping auto sales, and now an impotent, political and disconnected FCC.
Sirius and XM Satellite Merger Set for Approval; RBC Lowers Price Targets
Sirius and XM Satellite Merger Set for Approval; RBC Lowers Price Targets
92% of all Congressman have not objected to this merger orally or in writing. 85% of all Representatives have not opposed this merger orally or in writing. 74% of all States AG's have not opposed to this merger orally or in writing. Some polls suggest that when asked roughly 3 out of 4 Americans or 75-80% don't oppose this merger.
These are numbers higher than the margin of any President or Congressman. So why has this merger taken 8 months longer than the 82 Billion dollar Exxon-Mobile deal when it's only radio?
Because 100% of the NAB opposes this merger and contributes more than a billion dollars annually to campaign contributions and speaking fees of your elected officials.
The NAB owns Congress and Kevin Martin has allowed Congress to take over the people's agency.... The FCC
June Auto Sales: No Good News Here for Satellite Radio
Remember the movie "Misery" where Kathy Bates "Hobbles" James Caan so that she can keep him incapacitate just enough to enjoy his company, but to never see him become healthy enough to leave or defend himself? Every time the poor bastard would start to heal, here comes Kathy with a sledgehammer to crush his ankles.
See an analogy here?
The FCC five are not stupid people, in fact, if you look at their writings you'll discover that they are highly intelligent and articulate people. I've read most of their individual works and rulings. However, apparently something is horribly amiss as past history has shown that the average merger processes in less than 9 months .. So why are we here nearing 18 months with two quickly fading companies whose stock is valued by the leading financial house in the ENTIRE world as being worth less than a Big Mac or a quart and a half of gasoline?
Why ... Because the FCC knows very well that this merger is necessary for the proliferation ... no, existence of satrad. They know these companies are deeply in dept and can't sustain themselves for another half year, they know people love the service, they know satrad provides a great pubic service, they know the NAB has had a monopoly for years treating consumers like sheep.... and YOU know all these things are true!
But as Mr. Addlestein's writing hint (and I like him as a person and Commissioner ... he'd make a great future Chairman IMO) the FCC has allowed itself to be controlled by Congress... and Congress has allowed itself to be controlled by the NAB... and the NAB's intent is to destroy Satrad for their own financial benefit.
The FCC has fully relinquished its autonomy under Kevin Martin.
So what is a puppet FCC organization to do? Torn by the dictates of their puppet masters yet intelligent and moral people who realize that they are not doing their duty to consumers or the technology by nixing this arrangement.
They "Hobble" Sirius and XM very much like Kathy did. They take XM and Sirius within inches of their lives. This way they can have it as close to "both ways" as possible. Please their Congressional puppet masters and (lastly) hopefully the public.
This is exactly what they have done!
Let's hope it's not too late.
Go Jimmy Go!
Merrill Upgrades Sirius, Sees Merger Approval Soon
At this point a 470 day decision is a pox upon the hose of the FCC that won't be easily forgotten. These companies have been literally stripped of 5.2 BILLION (since 12/1/2007) of market cap which greatly impacts their ability to be financed and operate with efficiencies.
There has been some great FCC Commissioners and Chairmen over the years. Their hard and decent work is stained by delays and political positioning of this degree.
The Future of Radio Is Online
$4.50 gas, kids dying in a made-up war, the market in turmoil, jobs tanking, people going sick without insurances yet he has the time to thrice lobby the FCC for something fully out of his arena and jurisdication.... why?
Nab Money. Pure and simple!
Ask the Senators how much they received from the NAB over the last three years. These Senators are pond-scum on a good day.
The best Government your Money can buy!

Here are the 12 Congressmen that are trying to pass a bill to get the NAB off the hook. Please contact them voicing your support for the RIAA and performers and most of all, remember them at election time.
5/12/2008--Introduced.
Declares that Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over-the-air, or on any business for such public performance of sound recordings.

The Future of Radio Is Online
How will internet radio work in rural America and how will I be able to listen to programming cross country ... or across my state?
The last issue remains content and advertising. At least from my perspective, advertising and limited content will still be the bug-aboo to internet radio?
Your thoughts?
Why Did Satellite Stocks Head North Friday?
I'm going to say 3.20-3.60 tops within three weeks after announcement. Sadly, now that the FCC has jacked off for 8 overdue months (should have been done last fall) now you've got a market correction, tanking auto sales and 140-160 buck oil. FCC = useless schmucks.
It may take 2-3 weeks to hit it's top, then will slide back to 3.00 +/- .30 for the balance of the year. This shouldn't be sold on announcement as what Mel has to say, and the upgrades to be gained will take a few weeks to pee out.
Why Did Satellite Stocks Head North Friday?
Tim... I liked your picture when you were 23.
Stick to technology, not stocks.
