Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know Newsby SA Editor Rachael Granby- Bank trio becomes duo. Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
- Government considers next steps. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits. The moves, which would mark the government's most extensive intervention to date, are in discussion stages only.
- Credit stays frozen. As frozen credit markets refuse to thaw, the cost of default protection on corporate bonds reaches new global records amid investor concerns the credit crisis will trigger corporate failures as companies struggle to finance their businesses. Interbank lending remains limited, and borrowing from the Fed's expanded discount window continued its trend of setting new highs every week, as the total daily average rose to $420.2B vs. $367.8B last week.

3M (MMM) -- The moment this stock starts yielding 5%, I'm a buyer. Until then, keep your powder dry.Bearish Calls:Computer Sciences (CSC) -- This is a company that was going to be bought, but they passed up the chance. Now I don't want to buy it."Email continues...

Barrington Stays Positive on Sirius
Saving the Auto Industry: The Gush-Up Proposal
The problem is not with the vehicles, it is the workers. The Bail-out should have exacting details for spending. The information available indicates that Cerebrus can infuse enough money into Chrysler to keep them going for well over a year and a half. GM does not have adequate funds to last a year. The economic impact of GM going belly-up reaches beyond the direct employees of GM. Suppliers, Dealerships, and small businesses around these connected businesses would be severly impacted. People will be let go either way. The failure of GM will happen first due to the greater economic requirement, leaving an open market for Chrysler to thrive. This scenario gives the private investor Cerebrus the upper hand. I would rather see the people being let go become part of a training program to encourage personal growth. Don't give the funds to GM or Chrysler (Cerebrus). Instead, form a company to take on the workers pension responsibilities. This would be done in exchange for Stock in GM-Chrysler.
In 2010 GM will no longer be responsible for UAW Health care for retirees. This is due to a three year plan to offload this burdon to the UAW with contributions from GM. After 2010 GM will have adequate funds to develop new products and maybe hire back some of the newly trained people.

Stifel Lowers Sirius Estimates on Weak Auto Sales
Remember our last tally was 1.1B - .0305B = 1.0695B
Todays numbers are - .0195B = 1.0500B
Last time we tallied, the statement was issues by Siri.
"We may engage in additional exchanges in respect of our
outstanding indebtedness if and as favorable opportunities arise."
I guess a favorable opportunity arose!
If you take away the .425B estimated savings our new number would be 1.05B - .425B = .625B.
Another day, Another 19.5Million dollars.
This has been a public service announcement by the Big Blue Dog!

Looking at the Auto industry numbers (10.7M currently), a 12M goal is obtainable. Provided that Mel's numbers for % of cars with SiriusXM is correct, the numbers should be positive. Investors have been shorting the Auto stocks as well... but another article has pointed out that they are in decline.

1.3M to meet target (that would require 470K sales average)
September results came back with 970K
Historically June & July have been worst!
I think the analysts are agreeing with Mel's EBDTIA numbers. Another Alpha article (seekingalpha.com/artic...) points out that the Auto shorters are backing off. Since this stock is tightly tied to the Auto industry, the turn around should follow.

Autism is a very real problem. My nephew has autism and at times does not recognise between socially accepted and not accepted behaviour. Mel's motives, good or bad, does not diminish the probems facing these people. The movie "Rainman" was a watered down version of what the real with Autism is all about. Autistic children can get fixated on one thing for lonnnnnnnnnnnnng periods of time. Seeing my nephew replay a 25 second segment of a video over and over for a half hour was my first insight into his intense focus. Researchers have determined that people that have Autism have Genes that are "turned off". The research into "Turning On" these genes have a potential into other areas. Imagine, being able to "Turn off", the Cancer Gene, or the High Blood Pressure Gene. I wish good health to everyone, and their families.

Finally Some Good News for Sirius Shareholders
My company just announced a 25 % reduction in Salary presonnel. This is being done in advance of a potential takeover by a rival firm. In my opinion, the cut is being done in the event that the takeover does not occur. My company is majority held by a Capital Management Company that went to JPMorgan & Chase for its financing. The credit markets being the way they are a decision was made by the creditors to push for the sale of my company. The Capital Management Company which owns 51% of the rival firms financing arm has changed the credit rules for consumers. The Capital Management Company is "Suggesting" a swap of assets that would be mutually beneficial.
Bottom line:
GS is the instigator in my Companies fate, just as much as it is in the instigator in the SiriusXM financing. There was talk of puppets earlier in the thread. I suggest you look up ownership of the Federal Reseve of New York. The Point is that GS has power! If GS Shorts a stock, then you better believe there is something to it. Until the ShoReg numbers change, we would all be better just to hang tight and watch the financing games played. SiriusXM only had a billion dollar impact on the market. . . . . GS & their ilk control stocks by the trillions.

GREAT POST! That's the point I was making earlier about the Lawers. If they understood SEC rules they would have processed the proxey input parallel with the Civil suit.
