CEDC: Profiting from a Market That Can Lead You to Drink
For myself, I'm buying shares and selling puts but not selling calls yet.

The example was just to show what you could do right now if you were unwilling to wait to 'step into' the full trade.

I'd rather sell the $30 or (even higher strike calls) after CEDC shares have moved up from here.

That $175 per share average price for their buyback looks like a bad use of corporate cash with POT stock under $70 today.

      Avoiding Avery Dennison for Now
Using a 20-year average money market rate of 4.61% when current money market rates are under 2% makes no sense.

You need to compare the current yield of the stock to the presently available MM rates to have any validity.

Investment Discipline in the Year of Capitulation
It would be nice to know what the 20-year period's starting and ending dates were.

Without that, those figures are meaningless.

USG Corp: Another Buffett 'Failure to Sell' Mistake
Since this article was first posted...

USG shares got as low as $23.12 and are now in the $26.50 range.
The failure to sell at $130 is even more clearly defined now.

Is the Nasdaq OMX a Good Buy?
Even mentioning the 2005 low of 'under $10/share" without noting that EPS that year were $0.57 versus excepted 2008 EPS of $1.79 says you don't have any idea of fundamental valautions.

The same multiple on today's earnings would lead to at least a low $30's share price today- well above current quotes.

      Even an 18 - 20 P/E on next year's estimates makes for a $40 - $50 minimum goal by year-end 2009.

If Buffett gives money to someone else to run on his behalf then then results are his in the same way that 'look through' earnings on companies he doesn't run personally are his.

MEMC Electronic Materials: Climbing the Wall of Worry
There was a good article about WFR in Forbes a while back. They made the point the WFR was extracting onerous terms from their customers 'because they could" due to supply demand imbalance.

When supply is not so tight these same customers may be very happy to drop WFR for other vendors after being goughed repeatedly.

Vendor - Customer relations are not very happy.

That's becuase a margin requirement is a non-cash expense if you write your puts versus paid up stock that's held in the same account.

That's why I used the term cash-on-cash return.
